VICTORY OVER TEMPTATION AND FORGIVENESS OF SINS

When we become Christians, we are saved, delivered from sin to serve the living Godin righteousness and holiness all the days of our life (Lk 1:74.75, Romans 6:14). S in no longer has power over you. God still allows us to be tempted throughout our Christian life. Developing a right attitude towards sin and temptation is therefore vital for Christian growth
ASSURANCE OF VICTORY OVER TEMPTATION

A. I Cor. 10:13 (Memory verse I)
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God isfaithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
a. Will God allow a temptation that is stronger than you can bear to come upon you? How can you be sure?
Answer – No God will not allow a temptation that is stronger than I can bear come upon me. He assures me in His word.
b. If you fall into temptation, should you blame God? Why?
Answer – No. we shouldn’t blame God because He always provides a way out for us.

c. What are some of the ways of escape that God provides out of temptations? Give
examples
Some of the ways of escape God has provided for us are
i. The Bible
ii. Prayer
iii. Other people’s experiences
iv. Anymore ?

B. James 1:2-4
a. What should be our attitude towards trials and temptations?
Answer – we should consider it joy.
b. What results do trials produce in us?
Answer – it leads to spiritual maturity and inner peace.
c. Is temptation sin?
Answer – Temptation denotes a trial in which man has a free choice of being faithful or unfaithful to God. According to James 1:14-15 you’re usually tempted when you’re drawn away or enticed by your own desires. God’s word doesn’t teach that temptation comes from the outside. It isn’t wrong to be tempted. In fact, we must count it all joy as His word says because we have an opportunity to get victory over that temptation. When these desires get into our minds and thoughts and we agree and give in to them that’s when it becomes SIN.

C. Heb. 4:15 – 16
a. In what ways was Jesus like us?
Answer – He faced the same temptations
b. In what way was He different from us?
Answer – He did not sin.

c. How can we get out of a serious temptation if we want to
Answer – we can come before God in worship, communion and prayer.
His grace makes us able to draw near with confidence to receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS OF SINS

A. I Jn. I:8- 10 (Memory verse 2)
a. Is it possible to sin once you become a Christian?
Answer – Yes. Christians sin

b. When do we make God a liar?
Answer – When we say we are without sin. To have sin means to be guilty of
sinful acts

c. What must we do to have our sins forgiven?
Answer – we must confess our sins to Him. Thus, honestly acknowledging our
sins.

d. If God does more for us than just forgiving us our sins What else does He do?
Answer- He doesn’t only forgive us but also cleanses us from all unrighteousness. God is faithful to His promises. When He forgive us He no longer holds our sins against us, he cancels our “debts”.
B. Ps. 32:5
a. What two things make up confession, according to the Psalmist?
Answer – 1. confessing all our sins

  1. Also not covering up our guilt or iniquity
    b. To whom should confession be made, and what follows this?
    Answer – we should confess our sins to the Lord. This leads to total forgiveness of the guilt of our sins.
    C. Prov. 28:13
    Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

According to this verse, what is the result of
a. Not admitting sin?
Answer – the person who doesn’t admit his sin does not prosper.
b. Admitting sin and forsaking it?
